Sector Community Values
Introduction
A code of conduct and set of standards that define what we’re building—together.
Sector was founded to ensure that LGBTQ+ power, knowledge, and opportunity are passed forward—intentionally—across industries and generations. This Code of Conduct is not a list of rules—it’s a shared understanding. It applies to members, advisors, partners, and guests, and exists to protect the integrity of what we’re building. We take this seriously. But we also believe that leadership can be generous, warm, and human.
Sector Principles
Sector is built on trust and connection. These principles guide how we operate—inside our community and beyond it:
Ambition
We take pride in doing things well. We believe excellence is contagious.
We hold ourselves to high standards—but we also know we’ll get it wrong sometimes. What matters is how we recover, and how we treat each other along the way.
Empathy
We value difference. We listen fully, speak thoughtfully, and operate in good faith.
We engage across generations, industries, and experiences with curiosity and respect.
Discretion
We protect what matters. We understand the difference between visibility and exposure.
What’s shared in trust stays in trust. Privacy is the baseline—not the exception.
Presence
We lead with self-awareness. We recognize cultural complexity in every space—and navigate with consideration and discernment.
Alignment
We know why we’re here. We choose long-term value over short-term attention.
This isn’t about personal brand. It’s about building community value that endures.
Sector Decorum
Confidentiality is non-negotiable.
What’s shared in confidence stays there. This applies to personal stories, business strategies, and private conversations.
Respect is the minimum.
We don’t tolerate condescension, harassment, or performative allyship. No exceptions. But we do value humility, good humor, and assuming the best in others.
No pitching, poaching, or pressuring.
Sector is not a sales floor (although occasionally a dance floor). Solicitation of any kind—business, investment, romantic—must be clearly invited.
Consent isn’t just physical.
We ask before assuming. That includes photos, social posts, and introductions. Consideration is highly valued.
Cultural fluency is an ongoing process.
Sector is unquestionably LGBTQ+. Our culture evolves—fast. We don’t expect everyone to know everything. We do expect curiosity, care, and the willingness to grow.
We all represent Sector—inside and out.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously. LGBTQ+ culture is expressive and always evolving. But being part of this space means recognizing context and respecting the balance.
Accountability
Violations are reviewed by Sector’s Membership & Community Board. We prioritize discretion, fairness, and the protection of the community. We act quickly and consistently. Repeated or serious breaches (e.g. harassment, fraud, reputational harm) will not be tolerated.
Consequences may include
Private warnings
Temporary suspension
Permanent removal from membership
Loss of access to programming or leadership roles
In Closing
Sector exists to move generational LGBTQ+ influence forward.
That requires clarity, commitment, and character—from every one of us.
This isn’t just a network—it’s a community. And what we build together should be nothing short of exceptional.
